Monrovia – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has donated several equipment worth over US$250,000 dollars to the Liberia Institute for Statistic and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) for a smooth conduct of this year’s “Liberia Demographic and Health Survey (LDHS) and the National Population Census (NPC)”.

Report by J.H. Webster Clayeh (00231770745986)[email protected]

Items donated by UNFPA included four cars, 15 motorbikes, one 80-KVA generator, four desktops, three laptops and other stationaries materials.

Presenting the donated items Thursday, March 14, 2019, the UNFPA Country Representative Bannett Ndyanabangi said the donated items will strengthen LISGIS’ effort to conduct the 2019 LDHS along with the NPHC”.

The LDHS along with the NPHC aims to provide indicators on health and other social indicators that are impacting the country.

The data from the census will be used by the Government of Liberian and its development partners to make appropriate decisions for the people of Liberia.

The UNFPA Country Representative assured LISGIS: “Our institution is ready to work with you for the successful conduct of the up-coming Liberia Demographic and Health Survey and the National Population and Housing Census.”

Ndyanabangi appreciated LISGIS for the level of work, including the collaboration between the two institutions.

Receiving the equipment, LISGIS Director-General Francis F. Wreh recounted the many gestures from UNFPA over the years.

According to Wreh, after the passing of the LISGIS Act in 2004, it was the UNFPA which came to their rescue with some office equipment for their previous office on 9th Street in Sinkor.

“So, what has happened here today is not the first time. Since our establishment, UNFPA has being standing with us,” Wreh said.

“As long as you will continue this partnership, we promise that you will get the best from us,” the LISGIS Director-General added.

According to Wreh, UNFPA was instrumental in the successful conduct of the 2008 NPHC in Liberia.

The UNFPA is a lead agency of the United Nations Family and it works toward the improvement of reproductive health, including the creation of national strategies and protocols, and birth control by providing supplies and services. UNFPA supports programs in more than 150 countries and areas spread across four geographic regions.
